Readers for the Future
Systematic intervention empowers young, at-risk public school students to improve their reading skills. Readers For the Future is an initiative that offers the Orton-Gillingham Approach in Spanish to under-served struggling readers.
We focus on nudging students forward from a “learn to read” phase to a “read to learn” level.
Kinder through third grade students are organized in flexible, interactive, small groups based on their reading levels.
Their progress is closely monitored through periodic assessment to inform instruction that sparks the most meaningful results.
“I am grateful for MRC and their Lectores para un Futuro initiative. My participating students have shown significant improvement. I have seen how after months of intervention they finally enjoy reading and seek being read to, reading and writing constantly. For us it is a privilege that they choose our school. All the schools in Puerto Rico should have Lectores para un Futuro ”
